Margaret is 70 years old and has been fostering for 17 years as a single carer. Margaret’s grandchildren were taken into care and it was this personal experience that prompted her to start fostering for Wakefield Council.
Margaret specialises in looking after teenage girls, as well as offering respite care for children of all ages.
Margaret says: “As a foster carer you need to understand where children have come from and understand that it takes time for them to trust you and show affection. However, it’s incredibly rewarding when they give you a look or a smile and you know that you’ve made a difference."

“I am still in touch with many of the children I have cared for and recently I was invited to the christening of one of their own children, which was lovely!”
