Many people make room in their homes and lives for children: but what about a child that isn't your own? Could you open your home and foster in Yorkshire?
Some children and young people are unable to live with their own families for a variety of reasons and are in desperate need of a caring, safe and stable environment. If you could foster in Leeds you can help a child towards a brighter future.

Whether it's for a short period of time while a family get back on their feet or providing a permanent home, fostering in Yorkshire is a rewarding, exciting task. If spare time is an issue for you, carers are also needed to foster in Yorkshire, offering temporary care (days and overnight) for children with disabilities so that their parents can get a much-needed break.

In order to foster in Yorkshire we'll need to check a few specific things:
- Firstly, we'll need to make sure your home is safe for a child to live in.
- Smoke free homes are strongly preferred, as a child's health is extremely important. Under the BAAF (British Association of Adoption and Fostering) guidelines, children under 5 years or with respiratory problems should not be placed in a household where a member of the family smokes.
- Fostering in Yorkshire involves some checks. Potential foster carers and anyone in the household over 18 years of age will also be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check, as certain offences would prevent you from fostering in Yorkshire.
If you live outside Wakefield you can still apply to foster in Yorkshire, as we are keen to recruit within Wakefield and the surrounding areas. If you're already fostering through another organisation you can still register with us and one of our team can talk you through what we have to offer.
